The 2025 National Conference on Nano and Surface Science and Technology is a high-level academic event carefully created by the Surface and Nanoscience Professional Committee of the Chinese Vacuum Society. As one of the oldest and most influential conferences in this field in China, it has always been committed to leading and promoting the innovative development of nanoscience and surface science and technology. Since its inception in 2003, the conference has been successfully held for many sessions, covering top scientific research institutes and universities in China: at the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing) in 2003 and 2005, at the University of Science and Technology of China (Hefei) in 2007, Nanjing University in 2010, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong) in 2013, Yunnan Normal University (Kunming) in 2016, and the Suzhou Institute of Nanotechnology and Nanobionics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2019. These successful events have accumulated a deep academic tradition and extensive industry connections. This conference will be held in September 2025 in Shanghai, the frontier of China's scientific and technological innovation, and will be jointly organized by the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Surface and Nanoscience Professional Committee of the Chinese Vacuum Society. In the context of the era of deepening scientific exploration and rapid technological innovation, this conference aims to build an authoritative, open and cutting-edge exchange platform, bringing together top scholars, outstanding young scientists, outstanding graduate students and industry elites in nanomaterials, surface science and technology and related interdisciplinary fields at home and abroad. The core objectives of the conference are to deeply explore the latest breakthrough research progress in the field of nano and surface science and technology, systematically sort out key scientific issues and technical challenges, and look forward to future development trends and opportunities. We will focus on the whole chain of innovation from basic theory to application transformation, promote in-depth dialogue and cooperation between academia and industry, stimulate interdisciplinary collision of ideas, and jointly promote the vigorous development of nano and surface technology in China and the world.

This conference will focus on the following core directions and cross-cutting frontier areas:
 

1. Frontiers of nanoscience and technology:
nanophysics: quantum confined effects, novel physical properties of low-dimensional materials, nanoscale transport, nanomagnetism, etc.
Nanoelectronics and optoelectronics: nanodevice design and processing, nano-optoelectronic devices, flexible electronics, etc.
Nanomaterials: New nanomaterials (such as two-dimensional materials, topological materials, carbon-based nanomaterials, metal/semiconductor nanostructures), nanocomposites, nanostructure characterization, performance regulation and application, etc.

 

2. Surface science and application:
Basic research on surface science: surface structure, electronic state, element excitation, adsorption and reaction kinetics, surface phase transition, surface modification, etc.
Applied surface science: advances in surface analysis technology (such as in-situ/working condition characterization), surface engineering, corrosion and protection, tribology, surface catalysis, surface processes of energy materials, etc.

 

3. Technology-driven and cross-innovation:
surface interface engineering technology: advanced coating, thin film technology, micro-nano manufacturing, bionic interface, intelligent response interface, biomedical interface, etc.
Vacuum science and technology: ultra-high vacuum technology, plasma technology, thin film deposition process, vacuum measurement and leak detection, etc.
Application of large scientific devices: The key role and new achievements of large scientific devices such as synchrotron radiation, neutron source, and free electron laser in nano and surface science research.
Cutting-edge scientific research instruments and characterization methods: high-resolution microscopy (such as spherical aberration correction electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy), advanced spectroscopy technology (such as XPS, AES, SIMS, STM/STS), in-situ/working condition characterization equipment, artificial intelligence-assisted data analysis, etc.
